Frequently Asked Questions

Our Business

What makes Lyons Leather Co. different?

Where do we begin?! Lisa started the business after looking for her comfy, cute, convertible "dream pouch" for over a decade. When she couldn't find it, she decided to make it herself. While working full time, she spent years teaching herself leather work and hand sewing prototypes, she launched Lyons Leather Co. in May 2022. Today, we are still a small (but mighty) one-woman business based in Lyons, Colorado. She still designs everything in her garage. Our products are designed to be versatile and inspire an adventurous, simple lifestyle.

How are your products made?

We are based in Lyons, Colorado, where Lisa designs and hand sews the prototypes for all of our products in her grarage workshop. To fulfill orders and scale the business past her own two hands, we have partnered with a team of talented leather artisans in Leon, Mexico, a region known as the leather bag capital of North America. We proudly handcraft small-batches of each product resulting in quality, classic, heirloom leather goods you'll wear and love forever.

Where is your leather sourced from?

All of our products are proudly made from premium vegetable tanned cow hide from a tannery ranked the "most sustainable" in North America. Vegetable tanning is a much more environmentally friendly practice than chemical treatment. Our tannery is known for their proprietary system that treats waste water and repurposes leather waste by turning it into collagen. They source hides using "whole animal" production which means they are recycled from businesses that use all parts of the animal. They also run their factory on solar power and have a strong corporate social responsibility program that supports the local community.

How should I treat and clean my leather goods?

Your Lyons Leather Co. products are made with premium full grain leather. This means that the lighter colors will get a beautiful patina over time and every scratch or stain will blend together. Consider the imperfections to be memories. Please note, premium leather often comes with natural markings, including light scarring or color variations based on the tanning process. These are not defects, but natural markings that make your product even more unique. If you're looking to protect your leather goods, here are some leather care basics.

Are the snap straps safe for travel?

Yes! Our signature convertible pouches were actually designed for travel and every day life. We use heavy duty antique brass snaps that are super secure. The patented snap strap looks decorative to most people who aren't familiar with the product. We have never had an issue with security.

The item I want is sold out, will you be making more?

We carefully handcraft small batches of our classic color collections (Honey, Espresso, Black, Cognac). If we're sold out, use the "get notified" link on the product page and we will let you know when we're restocked. Please note, we are a small company, so it make take us longer to restock our collections. Our limited edition colors are released twice a year and once we're sold out, they're gone for good.

Can I choose my own lining?

We do not offer customized products at this time. However, we do introduce new limited edition colors twice a year. We change our the linings annually as well. We're always open to feedback! If you have a color or lining suggestion, please send to hello@lyonsleatherco.com
